Hi Konnie,
Thank you for your input. These are really great ideas!
We used to have lots of flyers in town and we do in fact have an add in Merrick life every week (at least I think we do) but we do not have someone to sell the idea.
This site was always supposed to be about Merrick and its issues. We changed it several months back so that it could be more interactive and allow people to discuss issues such as LIRR parking, the schools, or whatever is going around. Hence the new Forums format. We hoped to get enough membership and people coming to allow us to attract local advertising and grow it that way.
Unfortunately, we have not, at least so far, been able to find people who share the vision enough or have the time to devote to 'getting the word out'. The site as it is has been built by us with our own resources and we still believe it can be a very valuable resource for the community. We think of it as an interactive forum where the people of this community can discuss their ideas, problems and solutions. The power of the internet and its ability to communicate instantly harnassed for our community if you will.
I am especially excited about the online garage sale feature, although that has not really caught on either.

You need more members here so they could exchange information on the town and things around it. Is there a way that this website gets some advertisment? Maybe local supermarkets or pennysaver, or cars on the LIRR parking lot....
Also focus on few major ideas that will make people come back....
Here are things that would make me check back...taxes, schools in merrick, local events, local ads for sales/purchase, maybe posting an occassional article or report on merrick, nassau county, ideas how to spend weekend, etc.
